Queensland’s Best Open Male Surfers Gear Up For A Burleigh Heads Blockbuster

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 April, 2010 : - - Gold Coast -- Burleigh Heads will host an action-packed weekend of competitive surfing this weekend, as Australia’s premier state-based surfing series – The Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) along with a host of the region’s elite professional and amateur surfers take to the famous pointbreak waves for the Hinterland Toyota Burleigh Classic.

As the second stop of a four-event $16,000 series, the Queensland Championship Circuit continues to provide a proven stepping stone for the State’s elite competitive surfers. Excellent prize-money, selection into Queensland’s Open Men State Surfing Team and a chance for the series’ top two athletes to compete against the world’s best surfers at the 2011 ASP World Tour Quiksilver Pro Trials is setting the scene for a blockbuster Burleigh showdown.

A host of series heavyweights including the likes of Shaun Gossmann (Snapper Rocks, 2008 QCC Champion) and Damon Harvey (Coolangatta, 2005 QCC Champion) will be locking horns with a who’s who of Queensland’s Open Men surfing stocks.

Furthermore, a talented Burleigh Head’s brigade of young surfers including Hamish Whillans, Thomas Woods and local wildcard entrants Noah Lane and Kyle Robinson will undoubtedly be giving their all this weekend, as prize-money, bragging rights and the added incentive of surfing their home break go on the line.

“Surfing Queensland has been keeping a close eye on this weekend’s swell forecast and at this stage it looks like we might be in for some good, mid-sized waves at Burleigh,” said Surfing Queensland Events Manager Scott Gillies. “Part of the prestige of the QCC is seeing the State’s best surfers in the best waves, and the way this weekend’s field is shaping up as well as the opportunity to utilise Burleigh Heads will be a highlight of the 2010 series,” he said.

Also on offer will be the highly sought after XXXX Summer Bright Lager ‘Wave of the Weekend,’ with four cartons of XXXX Summer Bright Lager awarded to the competitor who registers the event’s highest single wave score (out of a possible 10 points) across the two-day competition. For competition start times/location, competitors and spectators can call the Surfing Queensland Events Hotline each morning of the event - Ph# (07) 3030 6388
