Local & Interstate Champions Crowned At Wahu Surfer Groms Comp

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 December, 2010 : - - Gold Coast -- It was all systems go on day-two of the Gold Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comp with champions crowned across all divisions in small waves at Broadbeach. Grommet-extraordinaire Holly-Sue Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW) added another string to her bow, bagging a win in both the U/13 and U/15 Girls divisions.

“It’s cool to win the Wahu Surfer Grom Comp especially coming into summer when there is heaps of comps on,” said Coffey. “Everyone always has a fun time at this event, so it’s good to mix in the competition with a fun side,” she said.  Meanwhile, Noosaville’s (Sunshine Coast, Qld) Nick Callister couldn’t hide his excitement with a mix of skill and luck helping him claim the blue ribbon U/15 Boys division ahead of Luke Hynd (Burleigh Heads, Qld).

In a two-horse race, Callister had caught his maximum 10-wave quota which meant the talented goofy-footer (right foot forward stance) had to watch the last two minutes of the decider from the beach. With a combined two-wave heat total of 13.17 (out of a possible 20) in the bank, Callister watched on as Hynd chased a mid-range 6.35, which would have given him the lead and the win.

Fortunately for Callister, the ocean went flat as the siren sounded, leaving Hynd stranded in second place.

See below for a full list of today’s winners:
