Cloud 9 Expression Session and rather chilly - Water temp 8.5 with an Air temp of 4 degrees C

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 January, 2006 : - - Sam George scooped £300 in prize money at the Jersey Surfboard Club’s Cloud 9 Expression Session last weekend. In two to three-foot waves and with almost £1,200 on offer at the meeting George shared the most futuristic award with Christian Boletta for his frontside air in the men’s open event – as well as collecting the best tube ride of the day prize.

The Open was held on a dropping tide with the Watersplash sandbanks shaping the waves beautifully. Rob Hansen, Nigel Wray, Clayton Lidster, Lloyd Yates and Ben Chapman all surfed well but just missed out on the prize money. But Renny Gould was on top form and took the power prize and £200 with a searing edge-carving cutback.

The competitive juniors were first out with talented AIB Academy boy Josh Letherbarrow winning both the most powerful and futuristic manoeuvre awards, worth £80 each, with fast driving on edge carving and sliding attacks. The under-14 Academy surfers were up next and Alex Vibert won it with an ultra radical backhand re-entry.

The powerful Nathan Elms, currently second in the British Under-12 rankings, collected £80 for first place in two categories.

In the ladies event Ebony Carro performed well to win the most powerful category with some gouging off-the-lip manoeuvres while Arlene Maltman timed a small inside wave well to win the best tube ride. Shelley McFarling took the most futuristic award with an on-edge floater. They all won £100.
