DNA test confirms burnt bodies belong to missing Aussies

Rest in Peace Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 December, 2015 - The Sinaloa State Attorney General confirmed Monday that bodies found in a burnt out van in Mexico are those of Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas.

Friends and family of the men gave DNA samples to be matched with the bodies found in the van. The burned-out van belonging to Lucas and Coleman was found in Sinaloa state with two unidentifiable bodies inside. Both bodies had been shot.

Mexican authorities made three arrests last week in relation to the murder. The suspects had been posing as police and robbing drivers on the Mexico-Nogales highway.

The suspects in custody said the robbery went wrong and one of them shot a long-haired tourist in the face when he resisted on November 21. The robbers killed the second man, drove the vehicle to another location and "set fire to the van with two bodies inside," Higuera Gomez told reporters.

Mr Coleman and Mr Lucas were driving from Canada to meet Mr Coleman’s girlfriend, Andrea Gómez, in Guadalajara.

Ceremonies were held globally this weekend to pay tribute to the missing surfers.
