Entrepreneur Robbie McKnight focuses company on high-end men's belts
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 July, 2016 - Robbie McKnight brings an entrepreneurial venture to core surf shops this week with the launch of Cuater, an accessories brand that will initially focus on unique, high quality men’s belts.
Inspired by a belief that even the smallest fashion accessories can adjust and inspire our looks. Cuater will feature fabrications, patterns, prints, and colors that show belts as a staple fashion piece rather than an afterthought.
Designed to blend style with functionality, the Summer ’16 collection includes a paper belt Signature Series, a genuine leather line and multiple stretch fabrications.
Robbie’s focus on a single, premium-quality product for a relatively untapped category in surf is reminiscent of his father, Quiksilver co-founder Bob McKnight, who dedicated his first entrepreneurial efforts to growing the board short industry over three decades ago. The senior McKnight will serve as an advisor to the new company.
Cuater will debut in July at Southern California specialty shops including Hobie, Jack’s, HS&S, Val Surf, South Coast Surf, Surfside, Surfride, and Sun Diego and will also be available online at Cuater. All Cuater belts are priced from $30 - $50, catering to a young action sports consumer.
“It’s very special for me to launch a brand and work in this industry that my dad has been involved with for 40 years,” says Robbie McKnight. “These accounts have always been at the forefront of authenticity because of their history, quality, reputation and service. It’s crazy to think that Hobie surf shop was Quiksilver’s first account, and now it will also be ours.”
Along with Founder Robbie McKnight - who will oversee sales, design and marketing - the start-up team also includes founder Ben Donnelly, who will run sourcing and operations. TravisMathew Founder and CEO Travis Brasher is also part of the Cuater team; along with former TravisMathew CFO Nathan Boroff. CUATER will also announce a team of brand ambassadors later this summer in partnership with the paper belt Signature Series.
