Jackson Giles bags the highest heat total of the day

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 September, 2014 - Event two of the 13 event Subway® Summer Surf Series kicked off today in tricky two-to-three foot waves at Bar Beach as grommets threw down some mammoth manoeuvres in an attempt to qualify for tomorrow’s finals.

After narrowly missing out on the final in the first Subway® Summer Surf Series event on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Under-18 Boys surfer Jackson Giles (Matraville, NSW) made up for lost ground successfully bagging the highest heat total of the morning, 15.16 (out of a possible 20 points). The Sydney surfer performed a variety of technical turns, which left his closest competitors battling for second place. Giles also managed to take out the Subway® Summer Surf Series Expression Session.

Subway® Summer Surf Series event one winner Jared Hickel (Cronulla, NSW), put on another solid performance in the Under-18 Boys, posting an impressive heat total of 14.66. Hickel will face off with Ben Howard (Port Macquarie, NSW), Reef Doig (Burleigh Waters, Qld) and Noah Cooney (Bangalow, NSW) in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

Other Under-18 Boys winners included: Reef Doig (Burleigh Waters, Qld), Shane Dennis (Yamba, NSW), Ryan Slattery (Toukley, NSW) and Jeames Young (Yamba, NSW). All surfers will battle it out in tomorrow’s quarterfinals. Macy Callaghan (Avoca, NSW), Alyssa Lock (Tweed Heads, NSW) and Alysse Cooper (Queenscliff, NSW) showed that they are the surfers to watch in the Under-16 Girls, all snatching respective heat wins. As a result, all aforementioned surfers have booked their spot into tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Darcy Crump (Avalon, NSW) posted the highest heat total of the entire day, successfully locking in 16.17 to book his spot into tomorrow’s quarterfinals. Crump was unfortunately knocked out of the first Subway® Summer Surf Series event on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in the same division.

Day two of the Subway® Summer Surf Series is expected to resume tomorrow at 7.30am. The main base for second event of the Subway® Summer Surf Series is Merewether or Newcastle Beach with backup locations of Dixon Park, Bar Beach and Nobbys.
