VicHealth encourages women to stand-up and paddle in Geelong
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 January, 2016 - Geelong, Victoria - Top paddle boarder Heath Meldrum will offer stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) lessons to Victorian women in Geelong next weekend as part of ‘Coasting’, a VicHealth and Surfing Victoria initiative to encourage more women to get active.
The current Victorian SUP Marathon champion will be teaching basic paddle boarding skills at Eastern Beach in Geelong on 16th January, 2016.
“Stand-up paddle boarding is a relaxing, low impact and easy to learn activity that is a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and water,” says Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“Stand-up paddle boards are much longer, wider and more buoyant than 'normal' surfboards, allowing you to effortlessly balance on them and propel yourself along the water with the paddle. It is fun, safe and super easy to learn.”
“We held the Victorian SUP Titles here last year and had some really positive feedback. It will be great to see a lot more Female Stand Up Paddleboarders out on the water over summer.”
Part of VicHealth’s Changing the Game: Increasing Female Participating in Sport, Coasting has been specifically designed for women and provides a fun, social and flexible way for women and girls to become more active through sport.
For only $20, all equipment and instruction is provided with every participant receiving a showbag.
The introductory class to stand-up paddle boarding is also being offered at seven SUP schools across the Bay as part of the ‘Coasting’ initiative.
