Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 June, 2015 - Sunshine Coast - Day one of the second event to the coveted two event HIF Masters & Women’s surf series presented by World Surfaris kicked off today at Sunshine Coasts Coolum Beach with competitors greeted with clean 2-3ft conditions.

In the early stages of competition, the under 16 girls set the benchmark for what is high performance surfing with Piper Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD) as one of those in her division to raise the bar.

Four waves was all it took for Piper to secure the leading position in her opening round heat and while doing so, scored the highest single wave score (8.67 out of a possible 10) within the women’s divisions. Piper is now the front runner for the HIF Wave of the Weekend $100 winners cheque to be announced at tomorrow’s presentation.

Among those within the under 16 girls is Zahli Kelly (Wooloowin, QLD) who like Piper, displayed an outstanding performance in her opening round heats. Zahli will shape up to the liked of Piper Harrison, Holly Williams (Buddina, QLD) and Anna Toohey (Dicky Beach, QLD) in tomorrows under 16 girls final.

From the over 50 men’s division, it was David Masters (Mooloolaba, QLD) who proved as an evident standout across all masters divisions with his heavy-footed maneuvers. David’s performance saw him steam right through round one and into tomorrows semi-final where he will be aiming for those all important ratings points in order to guarantee his spot on Queensland’s surf masters team.

Competition will resume tomorrow with the stage set for the finals across all divisions and Queensland Champions to be crowned for the Masters & Women’s series finale.

As added value to this year’s series, two surfers will also have the chance to take home $100 in prize money by winning the HIF ‘Wave of the Weekend’ which is awarded to the highest single wave score posted and is open to all Men’s and Women’s divisions.
