Growing swell at Honolua Bay indicates a likely start tomorrow
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 November, 2015 - Honolua Bay - The forecasted swell began filling in but not in time for event organizers to call the event on, prompting a lay day for the Target Maui Pro. With a full day required for the event to run heats, tomorrow’s expected rise in surf will give the world’s best a chance to take on the pristine lineup of Honolua Bay.
“There’s certainly a bit more energy around the site today but unfortunately the waves just aren’t filling in yet,” Deputy Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer said. “We are headed in the right direction but it’s just too late for us to get a start. I think what we’ll see is more swell fill in throughout the bay as the day goes on but we really need that whole day here so we’re not going to be able to get underway.”
Tyler Wright (AUS), Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW), and Dimity Stoyle (AUS) will be the first to compete in the opening heat of Round 1 once competition begins.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7:30am to assess conditions for a possible start.
Surfline, the official forecaster for the WSL, are calling for: The N swell that we saw on Friday will trend down through Saturday morning. New, long period NW swell will be on the rise through the afternoon on Saturday and peak on Sunday before easing on Monday. It looks like a slightly smaller, but still contestable, NW swell will move in for the 2nd-3rd.
The Target Maui Pro will be webcast LIVE on WorldSurfLeague.com and on the WSL app.
The world's best surfing will also be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports in Australia, MCS Extreme in France, EDGE Sports in China, South Korea, Malaysia and other territories and on Globo TV in Brazil.
