Margaret River local announced wildcard for Portugal

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 October, 2014 - Jacob Willcox, 17, the high school surfing sensation from Margaret River, WA has been announced as the Rip Curl Wildcard for the upcoming Moche Rip Curl Pro, which begins on October 12, 2014 in the thundering waves of Supertubos, Peniche, Portugal.

Jacob, who famously disposed of 11 x ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in this same event as a wildcard last year, comes into the mix with another ASP World Title on the line in 2014. His Rip Curl teammate Gabriel Medina has lead the ratings the entire year, and could clinch the title in Peniche with a win. If Willcox replicates his feat of last year and takes Slater out early, he could all but hand the title to Medina.

"Last year was a great experience for me and I really look forward to returning to Portugal to challenge myself against the best surfers in the world. It's such a good place to visit and the people are really stoked on surfing."

Jacob has earned his spot with fearless surfing beyond his years in the heavy waves like those found at Supertubos and by competing at the highest levels in junior events around the world. The young gun is looking forward to taking on the ASP world's best next week, no matter who he meets.

"It's pretty daunting to come up against the top seeds in another country, but I've worked hard at school to get the time off, so now I just want to do my best with this opportunity and try to have fun while I'm here. I can't wait to get in the water."

Rip Curl prides itself on recruiting the next generation, and like 3 x ASP World Champion Mick Fanning before him, Willcox is targeted for big things in the future by the ultimate surfing company.
