After lengthy day of waiting, push in swell never materializes
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 January, 2016 - Kontiki Beach, Netanya Israel - The SEAT Pro Netanya is on standby. A lay day has been called with insufficient swell and a bumpy lineup on offer on Day 8 of the event’s waiting period.
“We were hoping for a new push to happen throughout the day but unfortunately the swell hasn’t showed and now the wind has come up and destroyed the lineup completely,” Mikel Zalakain, Head Judge said. “Tomorrow will bring a new storm on the coast and we are confident that Monday will bring better conditions to crown our first SEAT Pro Netanya champions.”
Six competitors overall remain in contention for the inaugural Israeli event titles. Contest officials will reconvene Monday at 7:30AM to reassess conditions for a final day of competition.
Surfline, official forecasters for the event, are calling for: Small surf early Saturday. Building windswell with increasing onshore winds Saturday PM into Sunday. Slowly fading windswell with easing winds Monday.
The SEAT Pro Netanya pres. by Billabong are supported by SEAT, Billabong, the City of Netanya, Israel Surfing Association (ISA), Israel Government - Division of Cultural and Scientific Affairs, Corona, Channel Islands Surfboards, Ramada Hotel & Suites, Corny, GoPro and Dr Klein Sun among others.
