Katherine was tagged in 2013 has logged 28,000 miles in the Atlantic

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 April, 2016 - Great white shark fans in Florida are tracking the movements of Katharine the Great, white shark, who recently pinged off of South Carolina with a fast track toward Florida.

The 14-foot, 2,300 pound female has spent a lot of time off the Eastern Seaboard but has mostly remained north of Florida. She has explored the west coast of Florida but only briefly. Fans track her movements via Twitter pings.

Katherine was tagged in 2013 and since then has traversed the Atlantic for 28,000 miles, sending a ‘ping’ when her dorsal fin fitted with a transmitter breaks the surface. The transmitter then sends a signal to a satellite which alerts researchers to her estimated location.

The research group Ocearch, with funding from Cat Products tagged Katherine. She is among several great whites tagged by the group.
