School surfers ready for battle at Lost/ Body Glove British Schools Championships

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 April, 2006 : - - Young surfers, still in full time education, from all over Britain will be competing for British titles this weekend at Woolacombe on North Devon.

The Annual British Schools Championships is being co sponsored by Lost Surfboards and Body Glove wetsuits and run by the National Governing Body for the sport in Britain the British Surfing Association.

Surfers compete in individual categories for boys and girls and Under 18, Under 16 and under 14 age groups. There is also a Team challenge that has been won for the previous two years by Braunton School from Devon.

The ones to watch.

Defending Under 18 champion Tom Butler from Newquay will be the one to beat although fellow British squad members Billy Norways, St. Ives and Connor Spears, Braunton are sure to push the ice cool champ all the way to see if there’s a chink in his amour.

Tom’s brother Jack is in contention for the under sixteen boys title along with local rippers from Braunton School Lyndon Wake, Stuart Campbell and Alex Baker.

The wildcard will be Toby Donachie, Newquay who has just burst on to the contest scene with a stunning victory in the recent event at Croyde Bay.

The girls category was dominated by Welsh girls last year and is sure to be the same this year. The Swansea crew Beth Mason, Gwen Spurlock, Becky Templeton and Rhiannon Davies all made the final and will want to repeat that feat this year. Holly Donnelly from Newquay and another Swansea girl Kate Dendle will do their best to stop them.

Contest Director Karen Walton, has predicted a sizable swell for the two day event which kicks off at am on Saturday morning. The event is the last time the British Junior Team will compete against each other before jetting off to Brazil in May for the World Junior Surfing Games.
