Malia Manuel

Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii

Having grown up on Kauaui, Malia Manuel has been competing since she was 8 years old. She had an impressive NSSA and Junior career before joining the top 17 on tour in 2012 after impressive back-to-back wins on the WQS. Malia is highly influenced by many famous Kauai boys, who helped her develop the powerful, yet progressive grace to her surfing. In 2008 at the age of 14, she became the youngest competitor to win the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Malia’s positive attitude, friendly smile, and insane aerial talents have made her a favorite. She hand paints many of her boards with kaunu the Hawaiian word for ‘passion’.  Malia is a formidable threat on the women’s world tour, and she is determined to do it her way, stating, “True surfers do it to have fun, not for the glory. I just do it because it’s my Kaunu & I love it.”
