Coolum Beach Queensland

Mitch Crews Victorious At the 2009 Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Sunshine Coast Qualifier
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 August, 2009 : - - Coolum Beach, Queensland -- Mitch Crews (Currumbin, Queensland) blitzed a star-studded field today, to win the 2009 Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Sunshine Coast Qualifier.
Held in variable 1m conditions, Crews powerfully attacked the shifting beach break peaks proving too strong in the final for Wylie Moyes (Bronte, NSW), Bradley Homan (Marcus Beach, QLD) and Tyson Koszuszek (Mudjimba Beach, QLD) who finished second to fourth respectively.
Scoring a combined heat total of 14.50 (out of a possible 20) in the final, Crews said he was stoked with the result. The conditions were deteriorating in the final, so I was just lucky to get right waves and fortunately did enough to get over the line, said crews. Im looking forward to going to the Red Bull events in Sydney and hopefully make a charge at the finals and who knows, anything can happen, he said.
The result sees all four finalists set to compete in the Trials of the 2009 Red Bull Junior Surf Masters held at Cronulla Beach in Sydneys south, on Friday 28 August, 2009. If successful, their junior surfing careers will be given a significant boost by then competing in the Finals of the 2009 Red Bull Junior Surf Masters, where they will go head-to-head with ten invited pro junior surfers, hand picked by Mick Fanning himself.
Beginning his blistering title campaign in the quarter-final stages today, Crews was dominant throughout his heats, including being awarded several scores in the excellent range for his demolition of the Coolum Beach waves. Contest Director Scott Gillies said the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters is a great initiative for junior surfing in Queensland.
Red Bull have created such a fantastic concept for junior surfing and combine that with the huge prize pool, youve got a formula for success, said Gillies. The feedback from competitors, judges and the public has been overwhelming positive, so I think everyone is already looking forward to the next Red Bull Junior Surf Masters event on the Gold Coast and the Trials and Finals in Sydney after that, he said.
With the next Red Bull Junior Surf Masters to be held on the Gold Coast (Queensland) from August 15-16, the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters, presented by Mick Fanning, allows up-and-coming junior surfers an unprecedented opportunity to launch a professional surfing career.
