Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 August, 2015 - The 2015 Noosa Festival of Surfing attracted competitors from more nations than ever before, and 2016 is set to break new records. Entries have already been received from the UK, USA, Hawai’i and New Zealand, as well as from around Australia, and more are rolling in daily across the newly extended array of age divisions.
Connor Griffiths, son of the legendary British surfer-shaper, Chris ‘Guts’ Griffiths, will be joining us from the Welsh coast, the Schremmer family, Scarlett, Mason and Lola will be returning from the Hawai’ian island of O’ahu, along with multiple champion Honolua Blomfield, and Manawa Ruru will be representing New Zealand for the first time.
With 14 countries represented in 2015, the Noosa Festival of Surfing is truly an international affair. But at it’s heart, the world’s largest surfing competition is still very much a local event. Long-time Noosan Phil Jarratt, was at the helm of the festival for most of its two-plus decades, passing the mantle to his daughters, Sam and Ellie after this year’s event. As almost lifelong residents, the core of the family-run Noosa Festival team recognises that without the generous support, enthusiasm and boundless stoke of the local community, the event would not exist.
The unique geography and pristine coastline of Noosa makes it the perfect venue for the world’s premiere longboarding event, a Mecca for the very best exponents of the sport. The goodwill and backing of local and regional sponsors make this achievable, allowing the Noosa Festival of Surfing to continually grow and reach it’s silver anniversary, celebrating 25 years of Pure Stoke in 2016.
As well as welcoming over 600 competitors and their families from across the planet, the Noosa Festival of Surfing embraces its home and the community of the Noosa Shire, eager to promote and preserve this unique locale, its businesses, its culture, its people and its environment. This year, the festival proudly celebrated Noosa’s establishment as a National Surfing Reserve and will continue to bring its support of the local region into future events.
With thanks and appreciation for the wealth of generosity over previous years, we are extending an invitation to local, regional and national businesses to join us in 2016 as sponsors of the 25th Annual Noosa Festival of Surfing.
