Noosa Festival of Surfing

Entry numbers are seeing a sixty six per cent increase on former years

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 December, 2015 - The Noosa Festival of Surfing will celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 2016. With unprecedented numbers flocking to sign up, it has become necessary to limit competitors to a single age division, a new division has been opened – the Junior Girls’ Under 15 – and still the competitor list is almost full.

Entry numbers are seeing a sixty six per cent increase on former years, the festival’s global renown drawing entrants from near and far. Nine nations and five of the Australian states are currently being represented, with several more expected to fill the remaining few berths. With the Men’s Under 18, Men’s Open and Men’s 50, 55 and 60-plus divisions all now full, many entrants will be needing to finding their second choices to be able to take place in the 2016 Noosa Festival.

The support of regional, national and international sponsors is reflecting this wonderful influx in participants, the festival seeing the very welcome return of several long-standing brands, as well as local businesses and global entities, including Syndey-based Garage Handplanes and Noosa’s own Underground Surf & Coffee Shop.

Golden Breed, a name now synonymous with the noserider division, will be welcomed back for yet another consecutive year, and Australia’s leading longboard publication, Pacific Longboarder, will also be a strong presence.

With the ever-impressive Jackson Close as their foremost ambassador, Deep Ocean Boards joins us to support the SUP division, while Advantix and will once again make the sensationally popular dogsurfing exhibition possible once more.

Festival directors are thrilled with the strong show of support from local accommodation businesses. Laguna Real Estate has joined the festival once more, offering resounding sponsorship of the event once again in 2016, continuing their annual generosity.

With over 700 competitors and their families, not to mention the increase in tourists wishing to be part of the ‘8 Days of Pure Stoke’, much of Noosa’s premiere accommodation properties are booked well in advance for one of the biggest weeks in Noosa’s, and indeed, the Sunshine Coast’s annual calendar of events.
