Talk story series, writers' workshop, art exhibit and big-wave safety events dot North Shore season

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 November, 2013 - Starting next week, an impressive lineup of specialty hosted events will be held in conjunction with Hawaii's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Series (Nov. 12~Dec. 20). Joining the lineup of world class pro surfers and surfing competitions this year will be:
December 2-6, Turtle Bay Resort
Hosted by ESPN Magazine Senior Writer Carmen R. Thompson + Travel & Adventure Sports writer Tetsuhiko Endo, who will provide aspiring action writers unprecedented access to the most famous pro surfing events and athletes in the world. Over the course of this 4-day workshop, attendees will develop and dissect a variety of stories and subjects, explore writing and interview formats, as well as pitching tips. Thompson & Endo will guide attendees every step of the way.

Entry ranges from $10 to $20 with 100% of proceeds going to the Worldwide Voyage of Hokule'a.

"TREAD LIGHTLY" Art Exhibit by Kimi Werner + Vans:
November 12 through December 20.
Kimi Werner - Hawaii's world renowned free-diver, spear-fisher & budding artist, has collaborated with Vans to produce a special collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-paited shoes featuring coastal, ocean, and underwater scenes. The exhibit, housed in the lobby of Turtle Bay Resort from November 12 through December 20, features 12 pairs and 2 oversized Vans shoes, along with storyboard insights from Kimi, and underwater imagery. The entire collection is up for sale with 100% of monies raised going to Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, and Malama Pupukea-Waimea Marine Life Conservation District.

BIG WAVE SAFETY SESSIONS, In Memory of Sion Milosky:
November 19 & 20.
Hosted by big wave riders Brian Keaulana, Kohl Christensen & Danilo Couto.
The 2nd annual Big Wave Safety Sessions are back, this year with opportunities for public interaction and ocean safety education. Held in memory of Sion Milosky, a big wave rider from the North Shore who tragically lost his life riding big waves at California's Mavericks, these sessions will see the world's elite big wave riders gather to refresh their safety and rescue skills, breath-holding techniques, CPR training, and also analyze critical events that have taken place during big wave riding sessions over the past 12 months. The public will be able watch on-water skills and learn about key ocean safety lessons from some of the best in the field.

In addition to these one-of-a-kind offerings, there is also a full lineup of live music concerts, films, parties and benefits going on during the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Among them: Discover North Shore; the Rell Sunn Aloha Jam; Makua Rothman in concert; Surfrider Foundation John Kelly Awards; and a Bluegrass Jamboree.

And of course, the Vans Triple Crown is all about surfing. The series will round out the 2013 ASP World Pro Surfing tour, crown the 2013 ASP World Champion, and give away close to $1,000,000 in prize money to the sport's best:
