Northern Beaches dominate Day 1 of Wahu Surfer Groms Comp

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 December, 2015 - Cronulla - The final Wahu Surfer Groms Comp in NSW for 2015/2016 endured a day of tiny waves as grommets looked to book their spot into tomorrow’s final rounds.

Jamie Thomson (Narrabeen) showed he’d be the man to beat in the Under-14 Boys division flying across multiple flat sections and performing a series of giant hooks. The Northern Beaches natural-footer posted a 14.66 heat total (out of a possible 20 points) to take the win and lock himself in as the front-runner for the upcoming second round.

Multiple Wahu Surfer Groms Comp champion Cedar Leigh-Jones (Avalon) didn’t disappoint in the opening Under-14 Girls exchange, notching up a 12.83 heat total. The talented natural-footer linked together a chain of impressive turns to post the score. Leigh-Jones will make her next appearance in the second round.

Kobi Clements (Collaroy) and Jarvis Earle (Cronulla) both made their intentions known in the Under-12 Boys, posting round one heat totals in excess of 14.00 points. Both surfers put on an impressive display of power-surfing to post the scores and cement their spot as front-runners going into the second round.

The main base for event six of the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp series is North Cronulla with backup locations of Wanda and Elouera. All competitors are advised to ring the event hotline (0458 247 212) by 6.45am on the days of competition to confirm location and running order.
