Out of the Box Licensing to Represent Surf Culture Artist Drew Brophy

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 June, 2006 : - - Calabasas, CA – Out of the Box announced that it will represent popular artist Drew Brophy, best known for his colorful depictions of life with the sand, sun and surf as a backdrop.  His distinctive art style, which ranges from bright and playful  to cool and edgy already has a loyal audience of surf fans.

And with an estimated worldwide “population” of around 20 million surfers, the opportunities for expansion are seemingly endless.  Brophy completes 100 works of art per year, offering licensees their choice of inspired work to choose from -- many of which can be viewed during the LIMA International Licensing Show in New York, June 20-22nd -  Booth #1272.  

“Drew Brophy’s art can bring the essence of surf style alive in a wide array of products,” said Jack Morrow, Out of the Box President.  “With the built in universe of surfers, as well as those people who just appreciate surf culture, I see some very exciting licensing opportunities for this brand.”  Out of the Box will be looking to license several categories including apparel, domestics, footwear, swimwear, sporting goods, backpacks and school supplies.

Drew Brophy Properties, based in San Clemente, California, is comprised of his portfolio of original artwork that reflects the vibe and style of surf culture. 

Out of the Box, located in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas, was formed in 1999 by Jack Morrow, the licensing executive behind many of the most successful licensing and merchandising programs of past years including such legendary properties as The California Raisins, the Flintstones, Champion and Cigar Aficionado. 

As a top executive for some of the country’s leading firms, Morrow has played an integral role in the tremendous growth that the licensing industry has experienced in the past decade.  Morrow has also served two terms as president of LIMA (Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association), a non-profit organization of licensors, manufacturers and support organizations.
