Vegemite SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach runs with Quiksilver Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 February, 2012 : - - Rookie surfers Kolohe Andino and Lakey Petersen are not the only big names to make their inaugural appearance at the Quiksilver Pro, following the unveiling of the Vegemite SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach. A giant grandstand and self-contained interactive zone, the VEGEMITE SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach is massive and unlike any other stand ever built at the iconic event.
The VEGEMITE SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach is operating from 7.30am until 5.00pm in the afternoon on each day of the Quiksilver Pro, and offers event patrons:

• Free VEGEMITE on toast all day at its Vegemite Café;

• The opportunity to try tarp surfing, with sessions running every hour, and professional photos uploaded for easy sharing;

• Awesome giveaways throughout the day – with loads of VEGEMITE branded surf wax and Wahu beach toys to be had;

• A great family-friendly spot to actually sit in the mightiest seats to watch the action in the water; and,

• Regular appearances with Quiksilver surfers dropping in for an appearance or two.

The VEGEMITE SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach exists because of the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program, which kicked off last October, explained Marketing Manager VEGEMITE, Jenny Nolch. “VEGEMITE SurfGroms is the first national junior participation program of its kind anywhere in the world and offers youngsters aged 5-12 years old an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness, beach safety and surf skills that they will enjoy and embrace for a lifetime,” said Ms Nolch.

“The VEGEMITE SurfGroms Mightiest Seat on the Beach has been a big project for us, but we see it as a great chance to promote the program. “It is unlike anything we’ve done before or seen elsewhere, and will be a great place for people of all ages to base themselves for a few hours while they are at the Quiksilver Pro.

“It gives us the chance to spread the word about the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program, and hopefully give it a real boost in the lead up to Easter and school holidays,” she said.

As part of the program, eight VEGEMITE SurfGroms attended the Quiksilver Pro as VIP guests over the weekend. Every SurfGroms participant had a chance to win a trip to the Quiksilver Pro by providing a ‘Sic Pic’ of themselves or describing their experience in 25 words or less.

The six lucky Sic Pic winners were; Rio Heaney, 7 (Torquay, VIC), Toby Lawrence, 6 (Clifton Beach, TAS), Wade Russell-Yates, 9 (Perth, WA), Delta Woods, 8 (Woolgoolga, NSW), Harrison Tzannes, 9 (Broadbeach Waters, Qld) and Julian Michailidis, 10 (South Coogee, NSW). (Images available on request).

The two winning SurfGroms who wrote about their experience said: “I love Vegemite SurfGroms, it has been awesome!  I never want my lessons to end and can’t wait to go back for more!  SURFING’S SICK!!” - by 12-year-old Zane Nugent-Hedley, from Newcastle, New South Wales “I’m 6 years old and had so much fun doing Vegemite SurfGroms. I learnt to surf and made some new friends!” – by 6-year-old Charlotte Caldow, from Buderim (QLD)
