Rip Curl/Life Savers Rookie Program & Big Arvo TV crew

Seven of Australia´s best under 16 surfers have gathered at the pristine beach location of Bluey´s beach on the Mid north coast of NSW for a week with the Big Arvo crew from channel 7.

Chosen for outstanding performances in the national RIP CURL GROMSEARCH SERIES, held in five locations around the country, seven selected surfers were flown into the Forster/Tuncurry region to be greeted by a 2 metre + swell that is still on the rise.

RIP CURL team surfers Travis Lynch, Clint Kimmins and Ben Dunn are also here for the week and have been showing the young guys and girls what it takes to be at the top level of Australian junior ranks. Giving Australia´s up and coming surfing talent the chance to mix with their idols and learn how to operate on a more professional level with photographers, water cameramen and TV interviews is what the ROOKIE PROGRAM is all about.

With the waves predicted to increase even more in the next two days, some of the younger 12 year old grommets are nervously eyeing the action directly in front of the beach house. The rest of the Rookies were happy to use the knowledge of local representatives Elkie Jones and Jessica Hickson to relocate to a secret point break location around Taree.

Surfing waves twice there size, Matt Wilkinson´s back hand snaps and super smooth rail to rail turns have had the crew talking while Steph Gilmore´s style and speedy cut backs had the guys hooting her all the way to the sand. Local boy Ben Dunn stole the show with one long wave that emphasised to all the stunned grommets what it takes to be ranked number 3 on the Australian Junior Series.

The whole entourage will be staying at Blueys until Saturday morning and the grommets´ adventure of a lifetime will be captured on THE BIG ARVO Channel 7 TV show.
