After wandering the globe, Daniels found a home in the Basque Country
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 August, 2015 - Shaping legend Peter Daniels has passed away in the Basque Country of Spain at age 66. Daniels was all known for his shaping talents for such surfers as Tom Curren, Martin Potter, Sunny Garcia, Kelly Slater, Adriano De Souza and others.
Originally from South Africa, Daniels shaped boards from every corner of the globe, but it was in the Basque Country that he worked most recently under the Pukas label.
When he arrived to the Basque Country 18 years ago he already was a living legend, as he had shaped and traveled the world with Jeff Hakman “Mr. Sunset.”
In 1976, Peter Daniels was featured in the cover of Surfer Magazine. Peter developed the SL Bonzer bottom with Kelly Slater, a very peculiar bottom used for Pukas’ best seller “Pukas LaLola”. He also came up with the “Pukas Fang”, an all time best seller at Pukas.
Over the course of his career, Peter shaped an estimated 40,000 surfboards.
Matt Biolos of Lost Surfboards told Surfline: “He lived a radical life, and has been in a lot of pain the last few years, but still managed to get in and work, and remain at the forefront of surfboard design.”
