Joy Ann Froding died after riding one of the best waves of her life
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 November, 2015 - A second surfer has died while surfing at Swami’s in northern San Diego County. This incident comes just four days after Kenneth Mann passed away during a midnight surf session at the legendary point.
According to the San Diego Tribune Cardiff resident Joy Froding, 57, was enjoying a session when she complained of chest pain and collapsed. She was brought to the beach by nearby surfers who began CPR. The medical examiner reported she did not have a pulse when paramedics arrived shortly after. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The surf community is remembering Joy through various social media outlets. Surf coach and friend Robbie Nelson said of Joy Ann on Facebook “She died immediately after she rode one of the best waves of her life at her favorite spot, Swami's."
"This hit hard because I taught Joy how to surf when she moved to California in 2005," continued Nelson. "It made me happy to know that she stuck with surfing and really made it her lifestyle and that a beautiful wave was her last memory of her life. Rest in peace, Joy. You will be missed by many."
Froding was a lifelong artist. She also worked with gems and minerals to create jewellery which she sold through her Etsy page.
