Surfer didn't see what it was that knocked him off his board

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 March, 2016 - The north end of Huntington Beach was the scene of a shark encounter this weekend as a surfer at Bolsa Chica State Beach was bumped off his board.

Devonte Jones, a senior park aide at the state beach, told the Press Enterprise that although the surfer didn’t see exactly what it was that bumped him, the sighting was credible.

“The surfer didn’t exactly see what it was ... he just saw a tail thrashing,” Jones told the Press Enterprise. “It could have been (a shark) ... it could have not been one.”

The area was combed with personal watercraft and a helicopter shortly after the report but turned up no shark sightings.

Jones said “They sighted no sharks but did see “a bunch of dolphins.”

Another surfer was nearby and neither was reported hurt. The beach was closed in the area adjacent to the sighting for 24 hours.
