Memorial Day weekend surf comes with warnings in Huntington

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 May, 2015 - The unofficial start to summer comes with warning signs in Huntington Beach as surfers are being advised of sharks in the area.

Earlier this week, a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter spotted several white sharks, measuring from six to 10 feet, feeding within 75 feet of the shore.

In the last week, sharks have been spotted swimming south of Anderson Street toward Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Michael Baumgartner said.

The young sharks were previously spotted near Surfside Beach, just north of Anderson Street and near where the jetties end to the entrance of Huntington Harbour.

According to authorities the sharks are not aggressive and have not attacked humans. The juvenile sharks are mostly feeding on stingrays.

Marine researchers tagged seven of the great white sharks with transmitters to track their movements.
