The program is committed to developing surfing talent in Peru
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 October, 2014 - World Champion surfer Sofia Mulanovich from Peru is making new waves with Swatch by launching a high-performance youth surfing academy. Open to Peruvians of 10 to 15 years of age, from all regions and backgrounds, this program is committed to discovering and developing surfing talent in a country that boasts some of the world’s best waves.
Four “searching days” with Sofia and the academy selection committee will take place in different locations to recruit a total of 10 high potentials to become “residents” of the academy. The first searching day is scheduled for November 8 at Los Muelles in San Bartolo. On November 9th scouting continues at Caballeros, Punta Hermosa. The weekend of November 29/30, kids in Punta Roquita and Makaha in Miraflores will have a chance to secure one of the precious places. Young hopefuls can register to attend any of the days from October 13 via www.sofiaproyecto.com.
At the launch of the academy Sofia proudly declared, “When I was young I was lucky to have the support to allow me to chase my dreams. Now I want to give Peru’s youth the opportunity to chase their dreams,” said Sofia. “I want to give back to my country, and to surfing.” Using facilities never seen in the country before, successful candidates will undergo Sofia’s personal training program, including advanced competition training. Valuable life lessons are also on the timetable as the young surfers learn about environmental protection, healthy living and fair play. As a leading Swiss watch maker and established supporter of professional women’s surfing, Swatch, has the perfect credentials to be a partner of Proyecto Sofia Mulanovich.
