Proyecto Sofia Mulanovich at the heart of Peru's surfing future
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 January, 2015 - Sofia Mulanovich, the first Peruvian and South American Surfer to win an ASP World Title (2004), creates together with Swatch a Surf Academy for young Peruvian surf talents in Punta Hermosa, Peru. Today the project launches it's second webisode in the series.
Just two months ago, the Proyecto Sofia Mulanovich conducted four searching days to recruit 15 potential residents, aged from 10 to 15, for the new academy. This group then attended a tough scouting camp to fight for the 10 available places for the full program.
The “beach house” offers world-class facilities, totally fitting for a country that boasts some of the planet’s best waves. Training out on the beach and waves will be interspersed with workshops back at base using video footage to analyze and then perfect technique and style.
All of the academy’s activities run parallel to formal schooling. The focus is 100% on enabling the kids to emerge as both skilled surfers with competitive potential and as rounded individuals equipped to apply the life skills learned to have a positive impact.
