Bodyboard champ has close call with three-metre great white

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 February, 2016 - Photographer and former bodyboarding world champ Sacha Specker survived a close encounter with a great white recently in Noordhoek.

As reported by AllAfrica, Specker was surfing with friends when another surfer screamed that there was a shark right behind him. He turned just in time to see the dorsal fin submerge, but still coming right at him.

"I was literally ready, in full fight and adrenaline," he told AllAfrica. "My fists were fully clenched, facing it as much as I could, trying to take it on. It was reflex. I didn't have time to think about it."

The shark circled him several times and even brushed up against him. When the shark moved toward the beach, Speckler tried to flee but then the shark turned back toward him.

"I thought I was done, it's coming back to finish me off," he recounted.

Speckler made it to the beach, shaken but uninjured.
