Jason Statham, Johnny Knoxville and Julia Roberts attend Malibu launch

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 September, 2015 - Kelly Slater and John Moore hosted the Outerknown launch party this past weekend in Malibu with stars like Cindy Crawford, Anthony Kiedis and Chris Hemsworth in attendance.

The opening bash for the much anticipated line by Slater & Moore was also attended by Kering brand partners such as Volcom founder Richard Woolcott. Outerknown is part of the Kering family of brands.

Outerknown menswear features understated, lightweight button-front shirts and beach appropriate trousers. While this doesn’t sound like groundbreaking garb, it’s the manufacturing that sets this label apart.

From the beginning Kelly has been insistent on using low-impact materials and fair labor. The line features textiles from a company called Econyl that recycles old fishing nets. For this reason the Outerknown gear is more pricey than traditionally sourced clothing. For example a pair of trunks in Econyl are priced at $125.

“I created Outerknown to smash the formula,” Slater said. “To lift the lid on the traditional supply chain and prove that you can actually produce great looking menswear in a sustainable way.”
