Today’s attack happened in same spot as July shark attack

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 November, 2015 - Near Ballina on the NSW north coast, a bull shark has attacked a surfer, seriously injuring him. The surfer has been identified by 9News as Sam Morgan.

9News reports that Police said the 20-year-old Morgan was bitten about 6.30pm while surfing off Lighthouse Beach. The unidentified surfer made his way back to shore where beachgoers ran to help him.

Morgan sustained serious wounds to his left thigh and was rushed to Lismore Base Hospital in serious condition according to a New South Wales Police Force spokesperson talking to 9News. He is now in an induced coma.

According to a report by the Northern Star, Ballina Mayor David Wright was at a  meeting discussing shark tagging when he got the news of the attack.

"The attack was by a bull shark, which could be the one that was seen earlier today, I'm not sure," Ballina Mayor David Wright told the Northern Star.

“We had the DPI up here and the experts said, because it bit the board, that it was definitely a bull shark.

"Today they (DPI) were going out and saw the bull shark in the river mouth so they tried to get the boats after it but it wouldn't take the bait."

The beach is closed for the next 24 hours.
