Coombe Will Help Oversee Multi-Million Dollar High Performance Training Centre
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 February, 2011 : - - Coolangatta, Surfing Australia announced the appointment of Rob Coombe to its Board of Directors. Robs appointment coincides with a series of major growth projects within Surfing Australia linked to increased funding from the Federal Government via the Australian Sports Commission, and through further developments in Surfing Australias commercialisation program.
His appointment to Surfing Australias Board will enhance the governance of the organisation as it embarks on major projects including the multi-million dollar building of a state-of-the-art High Performance Training Centre at Casuarina.
Rob Coombe presently holds the position of Group Executive Westpac Retail and Business Banking, with responsibility for all Westpac's retail, small-to-medium enterprise and commercial customers in Australia.Prior to this, Rob was the Chief Executive Officer for BT Financial Group, with responsibility of the groups funds management, superannuation, financial planning, insurance and private banking businesses.
Rob joined Westpac with the acquisition of the BT Financial Group in 2002 and has over 28 years experience in banking, insurance, finance and wealth management.
Rob is also a Director of The Australian Indigenous Education Foundation,, Ascalon Capital Management and a member of the Advisory Board to the UTS Faculty of Law. Surfing Australia President Norm Innis commented on the appointment.
Rob Coombe is a very senior figure in business in Australia and will bring multiple skills to the Board of Surfing Australia, he said. Most of all, however, Rob is a passionate surfer, and will naturally fit in well with the other board members, and staff, of Surfing Australia who all share that same passion.
Surfers are a unique tribe, drawn from all walks of life, and the Board very much reflects that diversity in its broad skill set. I welcome Rob to the Board, and look forward to working with him in the sport of surfing in the future.
