Surfer suffers severe injury to his legs
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 July, 2015 - A 32-year-old surfer was airlifted from Light House Beach in East Ballina after being attacked by a shark.
The unidentified bodyboarder, who was dragged to shore by friends, had significant injuries to his lower legs according to a police statement which also said he lost massive amounts of blood. Rescuers found a shark tooth embedded in one of the wounds.
According to a witness, both of the surfer’s legs were injured. “It was both legs, but one was really bad, as far as I could see,” the witness told 9News.
The incident happened around 10 am. The shark is believed to be a 12-foot great white.
Surf Life Saving NSW confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that life guards are already patrolling the area. While the type of shark that attacked the man has not been confirmed, a great white shark has been spotted in the area of attack.
