Fistral hosts 2014 Nightsurf comp and party

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 July, 2014 - The weekend of the 4th and 5th July saw the 14th year of the Nightsurf take place at Fistral Beach in Newquay. Saturday saw the sun shine and the surf pumped.

The first heat of the day taking to the water at was the Beach Bum Under14 Boys, UKPSA Under 12 Champion Stanley Norman was a standout performer during the heats winning his with exceptional scores. This was followed through with him taking the win in the final and Kit Innes taking second place, Kit scored the highest wave of the day getting a 9.5 during his semi-final heat.

The next heats on the schedule were the Adams Surfboards Under18 Boys quarter and semi-finals this saw the likes of local Newquay boy Angus Scotney dominate his heats and eventually take the win in the final.

The final stages of the Pro Juniors were a tough fight with UKPSA Pro Junior Champion Luke Dillon and Bude’s Jobe Harriss showing their raw talent. The win was eventually taken by Jobe, who managed to out point the other finalists.

Saturday also saw the final of the Women’s in which last years Boardmasters and Nightsurf Women’s Champion Keshia Eyre came over from Portugal to defend her renowned title. After an excellent final and a very close call the win was given to Keshia Eyre, who managed to defeat an in-form Ellen Harding, English Women’s Champion Emilie Currie and Past Tour Champion Hannah Harding

The surfing events were brought to an end with the Open final taking place under floodlight and viewed by a super packed beach, this saw Mark Harris, Luke Dillon, Tom Butler and Russell Winter fight for the title. Mark Harris fought hard but unfortunately couldn’t make the wave scores he needed to claim the title. The final saw Luke Dillon and Russ Winter get some high scoring waves but the win was taken by Tom Butler who slashed his way to victory pulling of some amazing roundhouse cut backs securing the win. The crowd cheered as the final was called and Tom claimed his win.

The event was closed by an amazing firework display that impressed the jam packed beach. Again the UK Pro Surf Tour would like to thank all the sponsors who have helped make this event possible including Newquay BID, Britannic Industry who own the Fistral Beach Complex, Fistral Beach Bar, the Stable Restaurant, Carlsberg, Pommie Grommet, Beach Bum, who are sponsoring the under 14 boys and Adams Surfboards sponsoring the under 18 Boys.

Next event on the tour is the Boardmasters in August.
