Torquay Boardriders Club edges out Phillip Island
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 October, 2014 - Jan Juc, Victoria, Australia - Torquay Boardriders Club has claimed the Victorian Teams Titles for the third year running in small conditions at their home break of Jan Juc. Since its inception in 1976, the Victorian Teams Titles has been an annual event, which sees the top Victorian Boardriders Clubs compete against each other.
Split into two divisions, the A-grade division was contested between Torquay, Phillip Island, 13th Beach and Peninsula Surfriders. Torquay was dominant from the start in the A-grade final with a star-studded cast of former world tour competitors Nic Muscroft and Troy Brooks alongside prominent juniors and WQS Surfers Todd Rosewall, Harry Mann, Cody Robinson and Zoe Clarke.
Locking in a combined total of 72.79 points, Torquay bested Phillip Island who finished on 49.07 points. Torquay Boardriders Club spokesperson, Ross Slaven, was elated with the win on home turf. “Its great to get the win here at Jan Juc. The waves weren’t amazing today but the team did a great job together.”
“It’s is always a good battle between us and Phillip Island, Glyndyn and his team always put on a good show.” 13th Beach Boardriders finished in third spot on 39.77 points with Peninsula Surfriders in fourth on 35.14 points. In the B-grade division, Portland Boardriders Club took top honours boasting Marcus Eldridge and Adam Robertson in their team.
Portland tallied a heat total of 50.23 points over Point Lonsdale (35.64 points) and South Coast (27.27 points). Portland will now move into the A-Grade division for 2015.
