Trace develops tracking device for action sports

Industry Updates

The small device measures speed, distance, turns, vertical, & airtime

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2014 - Trace, the new action sports tracker from the makers of AlpineReplay, gives skiers, snowboarders and surfers the ultimate bragging rights to any mountain or wave in the world. The small device, which weighs less than 1.4 ounces, attaches to surfboards, skis and snowboards to measure speed, distance, turns, vertical, airtime, airs, calories burned, and a lot more. Ultimately, it helps athletes track their progress and ‘be better.’

Additionally, Trace syncs with all Bluetooth-enabled video devices, including GoPro, iPhone, Android to automatically and instantaneously create professional-quality highlight videos after each session. This feature, known as Trace Cam, overlays stats in real time. It helps you re-live your action, and improve at your sport every day.

“I grew up surfing and snowboarding, and always wondered if I was really getting better. Trace gives you the information to track your performance and visualize your improvement,” says David Lokshin, co-founder of Trace. “The automatic video editing is a key feature for Trace. It creates a highlight reel where you can see your best moments with the accompanying stats overlaid right on the video clip.”

The accompanying Trace Snow and Trace Surf apps are available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play. This allows users to see, in real time, everything that's happening with their friends and across a particular sport. It includes a leaderboard that shows who’s achieved the most impressive stats across a variety of categories, and a feed of the latest tricks throughout the Trace community. This is also where users can view and track their personal activity level. Additionally, Trace offers a 'Head to Head' feature that lets users compare their activity side by side.

“Trace will tell you stats on your sport that haven’t been measured before. Over the last few years, we’ve successfully built a loyal following for our AlpineReplay app and we are excited to share the new video capabilities from Trace that no other tracking device on the market can offer, as well as an improved app interface,” said Dr. Anatole Lokshin, Trace CEO and Co-Founder.
