Famed Beach in Northern Spain Claims Two People
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 October, 2014 - Spanish police say two surfers have died after struggling with the currents off the northern beach resort of Zarautz. Emergency services were called Sunday morning after other surfers had pulled the two onto the beach, police said. One surfer had run into trouble and the second went to assist but also foundered, a spokesman said. Resuscitation efforts were not successful.
The same swell that provided the Quiksilver Pro with heavy surf for a dramatic final day also hit the Basque Coast. The beach at Zarautz, 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of the French border, has a lively beach scene and has hosted ASP events.
