Tyler trails Moore by only 200 points before Portugal
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 October, 2013 : - - With just one event remaining on the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, Australian Tyler Wright (19) is on the crest of an inaugural world title and being crowned the 2013 ASP Women’s World Champion.
Having made 5 out of 7 finals during this year’s tour, Wright is fulfilling her potential as a legitimate world title contender. Most recently taking 2nd in a thrilling conclusion at the Roxy Pro in France, Wright will enter the final ASP World Championship Tour event in Portugal ranked second and in a commanding position to take the championship.
The 19-year old from Lennox Head scored a perfect 10-point ride in the final heat of the Roxy Pro in France against Sally Fitzgibbons (23), but was unable to seal the deal with a win against her fellow Australian surfer.
Wright’s hopes of claiming victory will now come down to the EDP Cascais Pro, the eighth and final event of the ASP World Championship Tour in Cascais, Portugal. Ranking number 2, Wright sits with a total of 54,500 points, just 200 points behind current no.1 and 2011 ASP Women’s World Champion Carissa Moore (21, Hawaii).
Shortly after the final event on the ASP World Championship Tour schedule, Wright will be touring the East Coast of Australia, November 12-17, for the Rip Curl My Bikini Tour.
She will be joined by Rip Curl teammates Alana Blanchard, Bethany Hamilton and Nikki van Dijk as they welcome people of all ages to get active and surf their way into the Australian summer. More information is available at ripcurl.com.
Expect to see Tyler charging hard and giving her all at the EDP Cascais Girls Pro in Portugal beginning October 3-7, where the ASP World Champion will be crowned.
