Osprey and Urban Beach announce sponsorship of Tom Butler
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 September, 2014 - Osprey and Urban Beach announce a two year contract extension with Newquay born big wave surfer Tom Butler. UK charger “Buttsy” has been busy making a name for himself on the big wave surf scene over the past couple of years, relentlessly pursuing jaw-dropping swell around Europe, most notably having bagged himself a couple of XXL monsters at Mullaghmore in Ireland this year.
Off the back of this successful year, online sports channel, Epic TV have funded a new six part series shot by Tim Davies, to follow Tom on a unique three month adventure to Hawaii to test his mettle at the birthplace of surfing. Stay tuned for more news on Tom’s web series over the next few weeks!
“2014 has been my first year of riding for the brands and I decided to focus on riding the biggest waves within Europe. Big wave surfing is all about being in the right place at the right time and thanks to the support from Osprey and Urban beach I have been able to chase some awesome storms this year.
After towing into the bomb of the winter at Mullaghmore in Ireland back in February and then paddling into the barrel of my life at the same spot just a few weeks ago, I feel like I can tick this box” said Tom.
“And now to be given the opportunity, in this new Epic TV online series, as one of only a handful of Europeans to travel to and surf at legendry spots such as Jaws and Pipeline, is an absolute dream come true.”
Tom will be endorsing a brand new range of wetsuits from Osprey, which will be available to customers in 2015. Tom has spent time this summer working closely with the brand on the materials and design, researching, tweaking and developing these wetsuits to ensure that they are at a level that he himself would be comfortable wearing at the highest level of action!

Osprey has led the way for entry level wetsuit brands in the UK over the past 10 years. Now we are looking to use our substantial experience and sourcing expertise in neoprene, to develop a higher tier of wetsuits which appeal to more demanding surfers. Having Tom on the team means we can get feedback from one of Europe’s best big wave chargers in the harshest conditions.”
As a brand ambassador for Urban Beach, Tom will also be wearing adventure lifestyle inspired clothing as he sets off across the globe in search of the world’s largest waves.
