Dakoda Walters scores highest single wave & heat total

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 September, 2015 - Sunshine Coast, Queensland - Outstanding performances across the 12 and 14 and under divisions set the benchmark for competition in what is becoming one of the biggest events on the junior calendar.

The opening heat of the day saw Coolangatta’s Jaggar Bartholomew use a wealth of knowledge passed down from his father (Rabbit Bartholomew) to take out first place in the 14 and under division over Jamie Thomon (Narrabeen, NSW), Dane Pullinger (Cabarita, Beach, NSW) and Kiah Birse (Pacific Paradise, QLD) respectively.

Closely followed by Bartholomew’s victory, star-studded performer Dakoda Walters (Angourie, NSW) scored both the highest single wave (9.87 out of 10) and heat total (19.20 out of 20) for the event thus far and in doing so, forced fellow counterparts into a combination situation, convincingly taking first place.

Both Jaggar and Dakoda will be looking to emulate today’s efforts in their round 2 heats set to resume tomorrow.

From the 12 and under boys, Ty Richardson (Currumbin, QLD) is looking to redeem himself after finishing third in yesterdays 10 and under boys final. Ty opened his heat with a 7.67 (out of a possible 10) and continued to build on his score line securing an additional 9.0 point ride and 8.33 finishing with a heat total of 17.33 (out of a possible 20) to secure the second highest heat total of the day behind Dakoda Walters.

In addition to todays outstanding performances, both 10 and 11 and under divisions held their presentation from yesterday’s plate and championship rounds with Joel Parkinson making a special appearance to award trophies.

The action wasn’t only in the water with a flood of frothing grommets taking part in the beach activities and loads of prizes up for grabs courtesy of Billabong.

The Billabong Parko Grom Stomp presented by Flight Centre is the first of its kind in Australia alongside Taj’s Small fries (Yallingup, WA), Oz Grom Cup (Coffs Harbour) and the Occy’s Grom Comp (Gold Coast, QLD). The event attracts grommets from all over the nation in hope of the youngsters having their name etched to the famed perpetual trophy as well as sights of a bright future to becoming a surfing professional.

Taj, Joel and Occy will choose one lucky grom from each event to partake in a ‘money can’t buy’ experience, a Surfing World photo-shoot adding kudos amongst competitors competing in these events.
