Volcom and Skullcandy sign on as presenting SIWSC sponsors
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 April, 2015 - Kuta, Bali - With just under 2 weeks left until till the start of the 8th annual Siargao International Women’s Surfing Cup, the ASC and the Municipality of General Luna are delighted to announce not only the exciting addition of Volcom and Skullcandy as presenting sponsors of the event, but that that Mayor Jaime Rusillon has generously increased the prize purse to a whopping $7,000 USD, which results in $3,000 going to the first place winner!
Equally delighted about being able to join the event this year is Australia’s WSL QS campaigner Philippa Anderson, who will be making her third trip to Siargao Island for the event.
“I'm super stoked to be coming back to The Philippines,” says Philippa. “It will be my third time back to Cloud 9 and I'm so excited. My trips to Cloud 9 are definitely in my top 5 favorite trips ever, and I have traveled a lot around the world. First off the locals are so nice and welcoming, which plays a huge part in me wanting to go back.

"Of course the perfection of the wave itself and seeing the increase in female surfing over the years is amazing. It's really great to see the Mayor, the sponsors, and the community put on an epic week for the ladies and it’s even more great to see the local male surfer crew encouraging us girls to go big.
"A big thanks to all the sponsors and support crew that make this amazing week happen and I can’t wait to see all my Filipino friends again. My family and church sponsor children in Bacolod Island, so the Philippines is such a special place for me!”
Other top women surfers signed up for the event are ex pro surfer Kim Wooldridge from Australia, 5-time Indonesian Women’s champion and last years ASC champion Yasnyiar “Bonne” Gea, 2013 ASC Women’s champion Rina Kitazawa from Japan, and 2013 ASC Women’s champion Annissa Flynn from Thailand, who will all be waiting to take on local sisters and perpetual event winners Nilbie Blancada and Nildie Blancada-Rittenbach.
The event will take place from May 4-9 on Siargao Island in the Surigao Del Norte region of the Philippines, a small but mighty island that has firmly stamped its name on the world surfing map for its perfectly barreling right-hander named for a candy bar…Cloud 9.
Elijah Kislevitz, who heads up Volcom’s marketing efforts in the Asian Pacific region, is stoked to be participating in the event as a presenting sponsor for the very first time, stating "We are super happy that we have the opportunity to be part of this event.
All aspects are wins; Iconic location (Cloud 9), a community supported and run contest, and the ability to help showcase some of the best female surfing in the region. Looking forward to this one and more like it in the future!"
Skullcandy’s APAC Manager Brian Walsh added, “Skullcandy is very excited to be a part of the International Women’s Surfing Cup in Siargao this year. Our heritage is in board sports culture and we couldn’t be more excited to foster that culture in the Philippines through competitive surfing events like this one.”
