Bronte Macaulay progresses to Round 5

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 May, 2014 - Taranaki, New Zealand (Thursday 1st May, 2014) WA's Bronte Macaulay has progressed into Round 5 of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women's 6-star Port Taranaki Pro after finishing in close second to ASP World Tour competitor Laura Enever in her Round 4 heat at Fitzroy Beach, Taranaki today.

Macaulay, who is currently ranked 2nd on the ASP Pro Junior ratings and 25th on the Women's Qualifying Series ratings has had a solid start to 2014 winning the Hunter Business Boardriders Pro Junior in Newcastle earlier in the year and recently winning the trials to surf in the main event of the ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.

Round 5 of the Port Taranaki Pro will kick off tomorrow, with Bronte facing fellow Australian Holly-Sue Coffey and Hawaii's Leila Hurst and Tatiana Weston-Webb.

The Chain Resources Pro Junior is taking place alongside the Port Taranaki Pro as a part of the New Zealand Home Loans Surf Festival, with three young WA surfers still in the mix, including Bronte Macaulay.

Yallingup's Mikaela Greene impressed the judges in her Round 1 heat posting a 9.20 (out of a possible 10) moving through to Round 2 tomorrow, unfortunately getting knocked out of the Port Taranaki Pro in Round 4 today.

Jacob Willcox (Margaret River) who is currently ranked second on the ASP Pro Junior ratings and has just come off competing as a wildcard in the ASP WCT Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach, has progressed through to the Round of 16 in the Chain Resources Pro Junior Men's event.

Both the Port Taranaki Pro and Chain Resources Pro Junior will resume tomorrow.
