Scotney, Payne, Cosier claim wins at Rest Bay in Wales

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 June, 2012 : - - Angus Scotney (Newquay) showed that at age (13) was not deterred by his older competitors by blazing through and claiming victory in the Under 16 division. The best 16 and Under amateur surfer's came from all over the UK on Saturday, June 9th in hopes of adding a Rip Curl GromSearch title to their resume. The challenging conditions constantly changed with the tide and wind variation but that didn’t stop the show with thousands of people coming to check out all the surfing action.

Newquay's young ripper Angus Scotney displayed maturity beyond his years with power maneuvers that elevated him to his maiden victory. “I’m so happy to win the Under 16 final and to win a trip to Portugal to compete against all the other Under 16 GromSearch winners from across Europe at this year’s Rip Curl Pro Portugal (10-21 of October 2012) is a dream come true’’ said Scotney.

The 14 and under boys young Cornwall style master Max Payne took victory over Liam Murry Strout with the lead switching several times before Payne sealed the deal in the last five minutes with an impressive 8 point ride. Gabiel Lay put on a clinic display in his Boys 12 and under final and came out dominant, while also locking in a third place finish in the Boys 14 and Under division.

In the ladies 16 and under division, Rachel Cosier (Pembroke) used her local knowledge and put on an impeccable performance nudging out Niamh Mathias. Cosier had her fellow competitors against the ropes and took the win and her spot at the Rip Curl Under 16 girls GromSearch European Final in Portugal later this year.

The Under 14 girls didn’t disappoint either with Ellie Codd taking down Niamh Mathias by the narrowest of margins. While in Under 12 girls Isobel Hedd Evens showed that she has a bright surfing future ahead of Molly Hodges. POSCA Maneuver of the Event went to Max Payne for a full front side vertical re-entry manouvre.
