Surf filmmakers Dana Brown and Jack McCoy to drop in on festival

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 August, 2012 : - - The X Life Film Festival is set to take off with an amazing line up of action sports films. The Festival will offer a plethora of events celebrating the culture, lifestyle and community of action sports.  Over the Festivals four days there will be new action sport films screening with some of the filmmakers in attendance.  Other special events taking place during the X Life Film Festival are epic! The screening of the Festival will take place at the beautiful Ramada Inn Hotel located steps from the sand and the dynamic Lynnhaven IMAX Theater,the dates of the Festival run from August 23rd to August 26th, 2012.
Opening night at the X Life Film Festival is the 25 Year Anniversary of North Shore, directed by William Phillips and written by Randal Keslier.  We see Rick Kane whose cash winning at the wave pool in Arizona inspires him to go to ground zero of surf, the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.  Where Rick seeks to surf the waves and make him a real surfer.  While there he learns the hard lessons of the locals, but meets new friends as well, including “Turtle” (John Philben), surfboard shaper “Chandler” (Gregory Harrison) and the beautiful Kiani (Nia Peeples). This film came out in 1997 and is the guilty pleasure for many hard core surfers.  This 25 Year Tribute will have guests on hand with John Philben and Gregory Harrison as they enjoy the X Life Film Festival and highlight the iconic film North Shore!
Also, set to screen at the IMAX Theater for the festival are Step Into Liquid by Dana Brown.  This is in the top ten action sports highest grossing documentary films to date.  Brown who is the son of legendary filmmaker Bruce Brown of Endless Summer made this film almost 10 years ago (2004) and took the world by storm.  Step Into Liquid features the best and brightest of the surfing world as well as the everyday surfer as they venture into the realm of stepping into liquid.  Dana Brown will visit the Festival to meet and greet in Virginia Beach and share what he’s working on at this time.
A huge event at the Festival will be with Jack McCoy and his East Coast Premiere of A Deeper Shade Of Blue.  This is not a surf film, but a look at surfing’s deepest roots of the history of the sport in Hawaii and the changes of culture, community and the spirit of the Hawaiian people.  McCoy is well known for such past hits of Blue Horizons, Occymentray and Tubular Swells.  This is Jacks’ 25th film and his first visit to Virginia Beach and the film features top notch music from Coldplay and Foo Fighters to name a few.  The deep rich cinematography will blow you away as we see why McCoy is known as one of surfing’s finest filmmakers.  The film has won at every Festival is has screened at and we hope the audience will come out to welcome Jack to the X Life Film Festival.
With over forty films both  feature and short will be at the X Life Film Festival, many of them are award winners from other major surf and action sports film festivals.  Promise Land by Todd Morehead, Lost & Found by Doug Walker, Minds In The Water by Justin Krumb, Manufacturing Stoke by Pierce Kavanagh, The Claim: Finding Nelscott Reef by Erich Lyttle, Sewn by  Nicolas Brikke, Gaucho Del Mar by Julian and Joaquin Azulay, The Watermen By Matt Lockhart, Boardroom by Markus Davids, and Fly Away Beetle by Ricardo Cangaceiro just to name a few! X Life Film Festival will have for the very first time a Grom Film Contest!  The GoPro Grom Film Contest has young filmmakers 18 and under making 5 minute or less films highlighting action sports of any kind.  We have surfing, skateboard, bike riding films form the best and talented Groms set to win a GoPro Camera! 
The X Life Film Festival will take place in Virginia Beach at the Ramada Inn Hotel, right off the sand located at 615 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Hours of the Festival are 11 am to 10 pm daily with the screening at the IMAX starting at 7:30 pm. The Lynnhaven IMAX Theater is located at 1001 Lynnhaven Mall Loop, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. The Festival will offer an entrance to all films at the Ramada for only $10 and the IMAX Theater screenings are  $12.50.  Tickets may be purchased at the door and through an App Purchase link.
