Counterfeit Quiksilver & DC products seized on Phuket

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 July, 2013 : - - Jakarta - Quiksilver has stepped up its fight against counterfeit product by announcing recent counterfeit seizures in collaboration with Thailand’s law enforcement. Approximately 6,470 items of counterfeit Quiksilver and DC clothing alone were seized during a raid in Phuket on 3rd July, as reported in the Bangkok Post on 8th July 2013.

The raids on the 3rd and 8th of July combined has resulted in Phuket's largest ever seizure of action sports counterfeit merchandise on the Thai tourist island, according to Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation.

Leading up to this raid was another raid on the 4th April, 2013 when Police raided a Shop / Stock Building in the tourist district of Patong Beach in Phuket and seized 660 pairs of counterfeit Quiksilver boardshorts and 1,020 counterfeit DC caps along with many other surfing brands product.

Responding to the current counterfeit issue, Paul Hutson, CEO of Quiksilver South East Asia said, “We are committed to keeping these counterfeiters at bay, we owe it to our loyal retail partners and customers throughout the region, our continued focus on South East Asian counterfeit hotspots such as Thailand and Indonesia and working closely with customs and local authorities to prohibit the illegal importation and distribution of these goods which mainly come from China is well worth the effort and money."

"We need to continually educate our markets that by buying fake products they are buying inferior quality and non authentic goods, most importantly their purchases do not support companies that are operating legally and giving back to the local community… they are just supporting organized crime.”

Quiksilver, in cooperation with local law enforcement are ready to pounce leading up to the coming busy period, in particular Indonesia , which is well known for its counterfeit practices.
