Snapper Rocks take out the Gold Coast World Surfaris Coast of Origin

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 July, 2013 : - - Gold Coast, Queensland - Gold Coast Boardriders clubs faced off today in the World Surfaris Coast of Origin Regional Challenge.

Duranbah Beach played host to clubs from all over the Gold Coast as they each put forward a team of their best surfers to challenge for the regional title and their chance to represent the Gold Coast in the State Challenge in two weeks time.

Clean and punchy 1 – 1.5m waves were on offer for clubs providing the foundation for some great scores and spectacular surfing. Snapper Rocks Surfriders were simply too tough with their A-list roster of surfers including 1978 World Champion, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew and former World Tour surfers Jay Phillips and Will Morrison.

Only one point separated Snapper Rocks from the pack leading into the final tag-team division, which they won convincingly, adding a further eight points to their team total and consolidating their victory of today’s Regional Challenge.

“It’s just great to be down here with the whole club; everyone from our young grommets right through to old blokes like me, we’re really looking forward to the State Challenge in a few weeks,” said Bartholomew after the win. “It’s so great to see events like this that are keeping club team surfing alive,” added Phillips.
